We all know Sedona has “been discovered”. Of course, we each discovered it ourselves some time ago, but now the secret is out, and it seems everyone has a bucket-list goal to visit Sedona. Our booming tourism economy brings both ecstasy and agony. We don’t often celebrate the good things tourism brings into our lives, but we have a far greater selection of shops and services and activities than a town of 10,000 residents could otherwise support. Tourism also funds a significant part of our city government, and it helps keep our taxes lower than it otherwise might be. But our thriving tourism economy also occasionally brings agony to our residents and has given rise to the Three Big and Critical Issues facing Sedona today: STRs, traffic congestion, and workforce housing.
